Golf
Quite simply, Quinta do Lago is a golfer’s paradise. The sheer number and variety of courses within reach of the resort is hard to beat, offering challenges to golfers of all levels. The breathtaking scenery includes wide lakes, undulating fairways and elevated greens, sprinkled with ancient pine trees. Add to that top-class facilities and the accommodating climate and you’ll see why the Algarve has earned a reputation as the ultimate European golf destination.
All these courses, and more, are within easy reach of The Keys:
- • Quinta do Lago South is a European Tour Course and has hosted the Portuguese Open no less than eight times. This magnificent course favours the long hitter but can be enjoyed by golfers of all levels.
- • Quinta do Lago North is set on the beautiful Ria Formosa nature reserve and is a challenging course for low and high handicappers. Blanketed with wildflowers and heather, this course is a hidden gem.
- • Pinheiros Altos: one half lakes, one half pines, this course perfectly reflects the natural beauty of the adjoining Rio Formosa natural park.
- • San Lorenzo: this exclusive course is rated one of the top courses in Europe.
- • Royal Course: This beautifully maintained and challenging course, once a venue for the Portuguese Open, is also home to the famous par 3 16th hole, one of the most photographed holes in golf.
- • Ocean Course, the Royal's sister course, is built around undulating coastline. Its narrow fairways and stiff breezes demand extra concentration.
- • Vila Sol's pristine and undulating greens make this championship course one of the best-kept in Portugal.
- • Old Course, in nearby Vilamoura, is a design classic that's recently had a facelift.
- • The Victoria, also in nearby Vilamoura, is the newest course in this area, and is presently home to the European Tours annual Portugal Masters event, attracting many of today's top international stars.
